Treawick, also known as Traewick, is a small, empty village. It is located on the eastern side of Whalsay island. Whalsay is part of the Shetland Islands in Scotland.
The village is found south of Isbister and northeast of Huxter. A small stream called Falsa Burn flows into the sea nearby. The name 'Treawick' comes from an old language, Old Norse. It means 'tree'.
Treawick's Past
Treawick was once a crofting village. A croft is a small farm, and crofting is a type of farming common in parts of Scotland. The old farmhouses in Treawick have been empty for a long time.
In the 1930s, a new road was being planned. This road would connect Symbister to Isbister. The people living in Treawick at the time did not want the road to go through their village. Because of their protests, the road was built to the west of Treawick instead.
Nearby Places
Just offshore from Treawick, you can see a small island. This island is called Rumble.
