Trent Grisham (born November 1, 1996) is a professional baseball player from America. He plays as a center fielder for the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before joining the Yankees, he played for the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Diego Padres.

Trent grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. He went to Richland High School and became a top player. The Brewers chose him in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft. After playing in their minor league teams for five seasons, he joined the MLB in 2019.

After the 2019 season, Grisham was traded to the Padres. He became their main center fielder. In 2020, he won his first Gold Glove Award. This award is given to the best defensive players. In 2022, he won his second Gold Glove, even though his batting average was low. He was traded to the Yankees after the 2023 season.

Playing Baseball

Early Years and High School

Trent Grisham went to Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas. He played both baseball and football when he was a freshman. In his junior year, he hit for a .441 average with ten home runs. As a senior, his average was .552 with three home runs.

During the summer after his junior year, he played with the 18-under Team USA. He had a great performance, hitting .538. He also had 24 runs batted in (RBIs) and ten stolen bases. Trent had planned to play college baseball at Texas Tech University.

Starting with the Brewers

Trent Grisham was seen as one of the best young players for the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. The Milwaukee Brewers picked him as the 15th overall player. He signed with them and started playing in their minor league system.

He played for the Arizona League Brewers and then the Helena Brewers. In 55 games, he had a .309 average with two home runs. In 2016, he played for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He only played 59 games that year because of hamstring injuries.

In 2017, Grisham played for the Carolina Mudcats. He hit eight home runs and stole 37 bases in 133 games. In 2018, he played for the Biloxi Shuckers. He hit seven home runs and stole 11 bases. He started the 2019 season with the San Antonio Missions.

On August 1, 2019, the Brewers brought Grisham up to the major leagues. He played his first MLB game that day against the Oakland Athletics.

Time with the Padres

On November 27, 2019, the Brewers traded Grisham to the San Diego Padres. He was part of a trade that also included pitcher Zach Davies.

On August 22, 2020, Grisham hit two home runs in one game for the first time. He hit them against the Houston Astros. Later in that same game, he hit a third home run. This was his first game with three home runs.

Grisham finished the short 2020 season with a .251 batting average. He hit 10 home runs and had 26 RBIs in 59 games. He also won the National League Gold Glove Award as a center fielder. This award recognizes excellent defense.

Grisham started the 2021 season on the injured list due to a hamstring injury. He returned to play on April 9. He also missed 20 games later that season because of a heel bruise. Grisham was the Padres' everyday center fielder, starting 118 games. He batted .242 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 132 games.

In 2022, his batting average was .184, which was the lowest among qualified players. However, he led the major leagues in sacrifice hits with seven. On January 13, 2023, Grisham signed a one-year contract with the Padres.

Joining the Yankees

On December 6, 2023, the Padres traded Grisham to the New York Yankees. He was traded along with Juan Soto. In 2024, Grisham played in 76 games for the Yankees. He hit 9 home runs and had 31 RBIs.

In 2025, Grisham had a very good start to the season. He improved his hitting and earned more playing time in center field.
