Trenton Lavar Hassell (born March 4, 1979) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a guard or forward. Trenton was chosen by the Chicago Bulls in the 2001 NBA draft. He was the 30th player picked overall.

Early Life and College Basketball Career

Trenton Hassell finished high school at Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Tennessee, in 1997. He then went to Austin Peay State University, where he earned a degree in health and human performance in 2001. One of his high school teammates was Shawn Marion, who also became an NBA player.

Trenton played college basketball for three seasons with the Austin Peay Governors. He took a year off from playing (called "redshirting") before starting. In January 2002, Austin Peay honored Trenton by retiring his college jersey number, 44. This means no other player at Austin Peay will wear that number again.

Professional Basketball Career

Trenton Hassell had a long career playing professional basketball. He played for several teams in the NBA.

Starting with the Chicago Bulls

Trenton started his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls in the 2001–02 season. As a rookie, he played in 78 games and started in 47 of them. He averaged 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

In his second year with the Bulls, Trenton played in all 82 games. He started 53 games and averaged 4.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

Time with the Minnesota Timberwolves

The Bulls let Trenton go from their team in October 2003. Just six days later, the Minnesota Timberwolves signed him. He became a regular starter for the Timberwolves. Trenton was known for being a strong defensive player. He helped the Timberwolves reach the NBA Western Conference Finals for the first time in their history during his first season with them.

Trenton played for the Minnesota Timberwolves for four seasons.

Moving to Other Teams

In September 2007, Trenton was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. He played part of the 2007–08 season with them.

In February 2008, Trenton was part of a big trade. He moved from Dallas to the New Jersey Nets. This trade involved several players and draft picks. He played for the Nets for a couple of seasons.

Final NBA Game

Trenton Hassell's last NBA game was on March 24, 2010. His team, the New Jersey Nets, won against the Sacramento Kings. In that game, Trenton played for 4 minutes but did not record any stats.

Playing in the ABA

After his time in the NBA, Trenton joined the Clarksville Cavaliers in 2011. This team is part of the American Basketball Association (ABA).
