Trevor Clarke's Political Journey
Trevor Clarke first became an MLA in 2007. He was elected for the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He represented the South Antrim area.
Becoming an MLA
In 2017, he did not win his seat in the election. But he returned to the Assembly later that year. This happened when another DUP member, Paul Girvan, was elected to a different role.
When a seat becomes empty, a party can choose someone new. This is called being "co-opted." So, Trevor Clarke was chosen to fill the empty seat. He has been an MLA for South Antrim since June 2017.
His Role in the DUP
Trevor Clarke is also the DUP's spokesperson for policing. This means he talks about police matters for his party. He helps make sure the police service works well.
