Many people thought it would be hard for the Alliance Party to keep this seat. But Trevor Lunn did very well. He was elected as one of the six MLAs for Lagan Valley. He was chosen again in the 2011 Assembly election. He also used to be the chairman of the Alliance Party.

Leaving the Party
On 2 March 2020, Trevor Lunn announced he was leaving the Alliance Party. He said there were "internal difficulties" within the party. Even after leaving, he continued to serve as an MLA. But he was now an independent member, not linked to any party.
Later, he shared that he would not run for election again in 2022. This meant he would finish his term but not seek to be an MLA anymore.
