Playing Career Highlights
Trevor Morgan played as a centre-forward, which is a player whose main job is to score goals. He started his professional football journey in 1980 with AFC Bournemouth. Over his career, he played in more than 400 games for various clubs in the lower football leagues in England.
In 1987, Trevor made a notable move to Bristol City from their local rivals, Bristol Rovers. This was a big deal because it was a rare move between the two clubs. In fact, no other player made the same direct move for 30 years! During that season, he scored several important goals, helping Bristol City get promoted to the Third Division.
Coaching Journey
Trevor Morgan's coaching career began as an assistant coach at Birmingham City. He then moved to Exeter, but left when the club faced financial difficulties. His next adventure took him to Australia, where he coached at a club called Sorrento FC in Perth. While living there, he became an Australian citizen.
After four years in Australia, Trevor moved to Singapore to manage Sengkang Marine FC. In 2004, he became the head coach for Sarawak FA in Malaysia. This was a challenging time, and he left the club after a difficult season. He later returned to manage his former club, Sengkang Punggol, in Singapore before leaving in 2007.
He then went back to Sorrento in Australia. Later, he was offered a role as a Development Coach at Hull City in England.
Success in India
In 2010, Trevor Morgan joined Kingfisher East Bengal F.C. in India, a team in the I-League. He quickly made a big impact. In his very first competition with the club, he led them to win the Federation Cup by defeating their rivals, Mohun Bagan A.C., in the final match. That same season, East Bengal also won the Kolkata Premier League and the Mohammedan Platinum Jubilee Cup, and they finished second in the I-League.
In the 2011–12 season, Kingfisher East Bengal F.C. finished as runner-up in the I-League and the Federation Cup. However, they did win the IFA Shield and the Super Cup that season. On May 14, 2012, he guided East Bengal to win the Calcutta Premier League, which was their third trophy for the season. Despite this success, he resigned that day due to disagreements with club officials. However, after discussions, he agreed to coach East Bengal for the next season (2012–2013).
Under his leadership, East Bengal won the Federation Cup and Calcutta League again. He helped the club achieve an amazing record of 30 games unbeaten in a row in one year. He also led East Bengal to the quarterfinals of the 2013 AFC Cup without losing a single match. This was a historic achievement for an Indian club.
On April 9, 2013, Trevor announced he would be leaving Kingfisher East Bengal to spend more time with his family in Perth, Australia. He confirmed that his decision was not about money. On May 23, 2013, East Bengal won the Calcutta Football League for the 34th time, winning it three times in a row under him. On that day, he officially left East Bengal after 36 months. He is remembered as one of the most successful foreign coaches in Indian football history.
Later Coaching Roles
In October 2015, Trevor became the head coach for Kerala Blasters FC in the Hero Indian Super League. Just three days later, he moved back to being an assistant coach, with Terry Phelan taking over as head coach.
On April 14, 2016, Kingfisher East Bengal F.C. announced that Trevor Morgan would return as their head coach for a second time. Later, in December 2018, he was announced as the assistant coach for FC Pune City.
In August 2020, Philippines Football League club United City F.C. signed Trevor Morgan as their head coach. However, he was unable to coach the team for the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Another coach, Frank Muescan, stepped in to lead the team instead. From 2021 to 2023, he coached Sorrento FC again.
