Trinity Springs is a small, unincorporated community located in Mitcheltree Township, Martin County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. An unincorporated community is a place where people live that does not have its own local government.
A Glimpse into the Past
Trinity Springs was first known as Harrisonville. Its streets and lots were officially mapped out, or "platted," in 1837. The community became famous because it has three natural springs. These springs made it a very popular place for tourists in the early 1900s.
At one point, there were seven different hotels operating in the community. People came to enjoy the natural waters. For a short time in the 1800s, Trinity Springs was even the county seat. This means it was the main center for government in Martin County.
A post office was opened in Trinity Springs in 1848. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1943.
Today, you can still see some reminders of its past. There is a rock outcrop covered in old graffiti. You can also find the remains of a historic swimming pool. This pool was once next to a natural sulfur spring. A special historic sign at Mustering Elm Park, along State Road 450, tells the story of this old resort.
