How Tripp Became a Town

The area that became Tripp was once part of Iron River, Wisconsin. On May 8, 1911, the government of Wisconsin decided to create the town of Tripp. They used the northern half of Iron River's land to do this.

The very first town meeting for Tripp happened on May 16, 1911. It was held at Winfield E. Tripp's home. W.E. Tripp started the meeting. Three men were chosen to be on a special election board: C.H. Townsend, R.E. Buck, and Andrew Paulson.

W.E. Tripp was chosen to be the clerk for this meeting. C.H. Jackman and William G. Ziemer were chosen to help with the ballots. They had printed tickets ready for voting. The polls stayed open until 5:00 PM.

The people helping with the election kept a list of all the voters. They also wrote down the results of the votes. They read these results out loud at the meeting. Only 13 people voted in this first election.
