About Tristan Sailor
Tristan Sailor was born in Brisbane, Australia. His family has roots in the Torres Strait Islands and the Solomon Islands. His dad, Wendell Sailor, is a famous sports star. Wendell played both rugby league and rugby union at a professional level. He played over 300 games in total.
When Tristan was seven, his family moved to Sydney. Two years later, they settled in Wollongong. That's where Tristan started playing junior rugby league. He played for the Western Suburbs Red Devils.
Even though Tristan grew up mostly in New South Wales, he was allowed to play for Queensland in the State of Origin series. This was because of a special "father-son rule" the NRL started in 2014. Tristan said he always wanted to play for Queensland.
Tristan's Rugby League Journey
Playing for St. George Illawarra Dragons
Tristan made his first big professional game (called "first grade") in 2019. He played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons against the Sydney Roosters. In that game, he scored a try!
Later in 2019, Tristan was named in the "Team of the Season" for the 2019 Canterbury Cup NSW. This is a competition for players just below the top NRL level.
The Dragons decided to let Tristan go from their team at the end of the 2020 NRL season. His father, Wendell Sailor, was quite disappointed about this.
Time with Souths Logan Magpies
In April 2022, Tristan joined the Souths Logan Magpies. This team plays in the Queensland Cup, which is another strong rugby league competition in Australia.
Playing for Brisbane Broncos
On 16 December 2022, Tristan got a chance to join the Brisbane Broncos. He signed a special "train and trial" contract for the 2023 NRL season. This meant he could train with the team and try to earn a spot.
In May 2023, Tristan made his first game for the Brisbane Broncos. He played as a fullback against the New Zealand Warriors. The Broncos won that game 26-22, even without some of their star players. Tristan played really well. He made an important tackle to stop a try and also helped set up a winning try with a clever kick.
He played a total of four games for Brisbane in the 2023 season. However, he did not play in their final games or the Grand Final.
In April 2024, Tristan started his first game of the 2024 NRL season. The Broncos won big against the North Queensland Cowboys.
Moving to St Helens
On 8 August 2024, Tristan signed a new contract. He will move to England to play for St Helens R.F.C. starting in 2025. He signed a two-year deal with the team.
