Early Life and Rugby Beginnings
Travis Waddell was born in Proserpine, Queensland, Australia. He started playing rugby league when he was young. His first team was the Proserpine Brahmans. After playing for his local team, he was signed by the Souths Logan Magpies.

Time with Canberra Raiders
After playing for the Souths Logan Magpies for a year, Travis joined the Canberra Raiders. He played for their junior team, called the NYC team, in 2008 and 2009. He scored 15 tries in 39 games for the junior team.
In 2009, Travis made his first appearance in the NRL. This was a big step up for him. At the end of 2009, he was named the hooker in the NYC Team of the Year. This showed he was one of the best young players in his position.
From 2010 to 2013, Travis was chosen to play for the Indigenous All Stars team. This team plays against the NRL All Stars in a special match. He was a regular player for the Canberra Raiders in 2010. Even though he broke his jaw and was out for ten weeks, he still played a lot of games.
In 2011, Travis started as a regular player again. However, the Canberra team was having a tough time. Travis was sent to play for their feeder club, the Souths Logan Magpies, for the rest of the year. He played 21 games for Canberra in 2012. After that season, he left the team.
Playing for Newcastle Knights
In 2013, Travis went back to play for the Souths Logan Magpies. But then, the coach of the Newcastle Knights, Wayne Bennett, asked Travis to train with his NRL team. This was a chance for Travis to join another big club.
On March 4, 2013, Travis signed a two-year contract with the Newcastle Knights. This happened just three days before the 2013 NRL season began. In June 2013, he was sent back to the Souths Logan Magpies for a short time. But he returned to the Knights in 2014 as a full-time player.
Joining Brisbane Broncos
In September 2014, the Newcastle Knights coach, Wayne Bennett, announced that Travis would be joining him at the Brisbane Broncos. Travis signed a two-year contract with the Broncos for the 2015 season.
In 2021, Travis became the captain-coach for the Goondiwindi Boars. This team plays in the Toowoomba Rugby League competition. He led his team to win the Grand Final that year. He continued to be their captain-coach in 2022.
