Daniel Motlop was born on March 16, 1982. He is a former Australian rules football player. Daniel played 130 senior games in the Australian Football League (AFL). He played for both the North Melbourne Football Club and the Port Adelaide Football Club. After his AFL career, Daniel played for the Wanderers Football Club. This team is part of the Northern Territory Football League.

Many of Daniel's family members have also played in the AFL. His older brother, Shannon, played for North Melbourne and Melbourne. His younger brother, Steven, played for Port Adelaide. His cousin, Marlon, also played for Port Adelaide.

Playing in the AFL
Kangaroos: 2001–2005
Daniel Motlop started his AFL career in 2001 with the Kangaroos. He played as a defender or a forward. At the end of the 2005 season, he moved to Port Adelaide. He wanted to return to South Australia.
Port Adelaide: 2006–2011
Daniel joined Port Adelaide in late 2005. In the 2007 season, he faced some injuries. He had an ankle injury in Round 1 and a broken collarbone in Round 9. However, he returned in Round 13 against Brisbane. In that game, he kicked a career-best 6 goals. This helped Port Adelaide win and earned him a goal of the year nomination.
In the 2008 AFL season, Daniel was one of the top goal-kickers in the AFL. He kicked 7 goals in one game against Essendon. He also kicked 5 goals against Fremantle. One of these was a candidate for goal of the year.
In 2009, Daniel played 11 games and averaged 2 goals per game. He missed much of the second half of the season due to a fractured ankle. He had surgery on his ankle. This kept him from playing until Round 7 in 2010. In that game, he kicked 3 goals. Daniel was removed from the Port Adelaide team at the end of the 2011 season. He played 83 games and kicked 155 goals for the club.
After the AFL
After leaving the AFL, Daniel continued to play football. He played for the Wanderers Football Club. This team is part of the Northern Territory Football League.

In 2016, Daniel Motlop became the general manager and a part-owner of a business called Something Wild. This company focuses on native Australian foods. It is located in the Barossa Valley. In 2023, Daniel Motlop received a NAIDOC Week award for Innovation. He won this award for his work with Something Wild. He was recognized for being the main force behind the business.
