History of Trout Lake
Trout Lake was one of two main lakes in Jackson Township. People used to harvest ice from these lakes. The other major lake was Mountain Springs Lake.
Early Uses of the Lake
For a long time, Trout Lake was important for farming and logging. Farmers used the water for their crops and animals. Loggers used the lake to help move trees.
The Ice Harvesting Boom
In the late 1800s, a new industry became popular. This was the ice harvesting industry. People needed ice for refrigeration, which meant keeping food cold. Workers would cut large blocks of ice from the frozen lake in winter. They stored this ice to use or sell later. As more people needed ice, it was sent to big cities. These cities included New York City and Philadelphia.
Trout Lake Today
Since 1991, Trout Lake has been used for different purposes. It is home to the International Sports Training Camp. It also hosts Trout Lake Retreats. Mark Major and Kara Klaus-Major own and run both of these places.
