Tryon is a small community in McPherson County, Nebraska, in the United States. It is the main town and the "county seat" for McPherson County. This means it's where the local government offices are located. In 2020, about 107 people lived in Tryon. This was a bit fewer than the 157 people who lived there in 2010.

Tryon's Past: A Quick Look

Tryon started in 1890 with the name "McPherson." Just two years later, in 1892, its name was changed to Tryon. People aren't completely sure why the name was changed.

Where is Tryon Located?

Tryon is found in the east-central part of McPherson County. Two main roads, Highway 92 and Highway 97, go right through the middle of the town.

Highway 92 connects Tryon to other towns. It goes about 24 miles (39 km) east to Stapleton and about 40 miles (64 km) west to Arthur. Highway 97 goes north about 36 miles (58 km) to Mullen and south about 35 miles (56 km) to North Platte.

Tryon covers a total area of about 1.2 square miles (3.1 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.

Tryon is part of the North Platte Micropolitan Statistical Area. This is a group of nearby areas that are connected economically.

Back in 2000, there were 90 people living in Tryon. These people lived in 48 different homes. About 27 of these homes were families. The community was made up of 100% White residents.

In 2000, about 20.8% of homes had children under 18 living there. About 45.8% of homes were married couples. Also, 43.8% of all homes were single individuals. Many of these individuals, 37.5%, were 65 years old or older and lived alone.
