Mullen is a small village located in Hooker County, Nebraska, in the United States. It's known as the county seat, which means it's the main town where the county government is located. In 2020, about 500 people lived there.

History of Mullen
Mullen was founded in 1888. This happened when the railroad tracks were built to reach this area. The village was named after Charles Mullen, who was a railroad official.
Since it was the only settlement in Hooker County, Mullen quickly became the county seat. The first courthouse was finished in 1889. Mullen officially became a village in 1907.
Geography of Mullen
Mullen is located in a unique area of Nebraska called the Nebraska Sandhills. This region is known for its grassy sand dunes.
The village covers a total area of about 0.47 square miles (1.2 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Charles D. Mullen, for whom the town is named, worked for the CB&Q Railroad.

Fun Annual Events
Mullen hosts some exciting events each year.
- The Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway Polar Bear Tank Race happens every winter. Teams race down the Middle Loup River in large stock tanks. It sounds like a chilly but fun competition!
- The Sharptail Shootout takes place in September. This is a timed hunting competition. Hunters try to get the most grouse with the fewest shots. This event has been going on for over 25 years.

- The Hooker County Historical Museum is a great place to learn about the area's past. It has many exhibits, including displays about military history.
Parks and Recreation
Mullen is home to some great spots for outdoor activities.
- The Sand Hills Golf Club is located just outside Mullen. It's considered one of the top golf courses in the world by Golf Magazine.
- The Mullen Golf Club was first started in 1924. It's a 9-hole course on the west side of Mullen. It used to have sand greens, but they were changed to grass greens in 1991.

Students in Mullen attend schools within the Mullen Public Schools School District. The district has both an elementary school and a high school. Older students go to Mullen High School.

- Justin McBride is a famous professional bull rider. He won the PBR World Champion title in 2005 and 2007. He is also a country music singer.
