History of Tukhard
How Tukhard Started
The village of Tukhard began in 1968. It was the starting point for building a very important gas pipeline. This pipeline, called the Messoyakha-Dudinka-Norilsk gas pipeline, carries natural gas. The company Norilskgazprom built a special base here to move goods. Workers from Norilskgazprom built the first buildings in Tukhard.
What the Name Means
The name "Tukhard" comes from two words in the Nenets language. "Tu" means fire, and "harad" means house. So, Tukhard means "a place where fire is made." This name makes sense because of the natural gas found there.
Growing the Village
In the 1970s, a runway was built in Tukhard. This allowed small airplanes to land there. In 1978, local leaders decided to create a special farm. This farm focused on raising reindeer and fishing. In 1979, new equipment for the Tukhard state farm arrived by tugboat.
Changes in Administration
On May 25, 2002, Tukhard's administration changed. Before this, it was managed by the town of Dudinka. Then, it became part of the Ust-Yenisei region. Today, Tukhard is one of the largest villages in the Karaul rural settlement area.
