Tuna Luso Brasileira, often called Tuna Luso, is a professional football club from Brazil. They are based in Belém, a city in the state of Pará. The club started on January 1, 1903. They play in the Campeonato Paraense, which is the top football league in their state.

Club History: How Tuna Luso Started

Tuna Luso began as a musical band! In 1902, a Portuguese ship called Dom Carlos was visiting Belém. Some young Portuguese people living in the city wanted to welcome their fellow countrymen. So, they decided to form a music group.

They named their band Tuna Luso Caixeiral.

  • Tuna means a popular orchestra.
  • Luso means Portuguese.
  • Caixeiral means a commerce employee.

Later, the club changed its name to Tuna Luso Comercial. Years after that, it became Tuna Luso Brasileira.

Tuna Luso's Start in Sports

The club first got into sports in 1906. They opened a rowing department, which is a sport where people race boats using oars. Football was added to the club in 1915. However, the team did not join the state championship until 1933.

Tuna Luso won its first state championship in 1937. This was a very exciting moment for the club! They continued to achieve great things in football.

In 1985, Tuna Luso won the second division of the Brazilian National Championship. This was a huge national victory! Then, in 1992, they won the third division of the Brazilian National Championship.
