Tuna Luso began as a musical band! In 1902, a Portuguese ship called Dom Carlos was visiting Belém. Some young Portuguese people living in the city wanted to welcome their fellow countrymen. So, they decided to form a music group.
They named their band Tuna Luso Caixeiral.

- Luso means Portuguese.
- Caixeiral means a commerce employee.
Later, the club changed its name to Tuna Luso Comercial. Years after that, it became Tuna Luso Brasileira.

The club first got into sports in 1906. They opened a rowing department, which is a sport where people race boats using oars. Football was added to the club in 1915. However, the team did not join the state championship until 1933.
