Tupambaé is a small village located in the Cerro Largo Department in eastern Uruguay. In 2011, about 1,122 people lived in this village.
Where is Tupambaé?
Tupambaé is located right on the border with the Treinta y Tres Department. You can find it on Route 7, a main road in Uruguay, at a spot known as "Kilometre 334." This is about 86 kilometers (around 53 miles) southwest of the city of Melo.
A train track that goes from Montevideo to Melo also passes through the southern part of the village. The closest town to Tupambaé is Santa Clara de Olimar, which is about 21 kilometers (around 13 miles) away along Route 7.
A Brief History
Tupambaé officially became a "Pueblo" (which means "village" in Spanish) on August 19, 1926. This happened when a special law, called Ley Nº 7.984, was passed.
