Prince Turki bin Sultan Al Saud was an important member of the House of Saud, the royal family of Saudi Arabia. He served as a deputy minister in charge of culture and information for his country. He was born on October 6, 1959, and passed away on December 25, 2012.

Early Life and Learning
Turki bin Sultan was born in 1959. His father was Sultan bin Abdulaziz, who was the Crown Prince (meaning he was next in line to become king). Turki had three full brothers: Khalid bin Sultan, Fahd bin Sultan, and Faisal bin Sultan. Their mother was Munira bint Abdulaziz bin Musaed Al Jiluwi.
Prince Turki studied media at King Saud University and finished in 1981. He then went to Syracuse University in the United States, where he earned a Master's degree in international communications in 1983. He was even named an "outstanding graduate student" there!
After his studies, he worked as a trainee at an American TV network called CBS for a year. He also represented CBS in New York in 1983.
His Work in Government
Prince Turki started his career in the government by working in the press section of the Ministry of Culture and Information. This ministry handles news and public information for Saudi Arabia.
- In 1986, he became an advisor for foreign information at the same ministry.
- By 1990, he was promoted to assistant deputy minister for planning and studies.
- From 1996, he served as assistant deputy minister for foreign information.
In May 2001, King Fahd appointed Prince Turki as the assistant minister of culture and information. He also oversaw the Saudi sports channel, which broadcasts sports events.
Later, on September 4, 2011, King Abdullah made him the deputy minister of culture and information for media affairs. This was a very important role, similar to being a full minister. After Prince Turki passed away, Abdullah Al Jasser took over his position.
Other Important Roles
Prince Turki was involved in many other activities.
- In 1995, he became a member of the board for the Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation. This foundation works on charity and development projects. He was also the acting secretary for the foundation.
- In 1999, he led the group that organized the celebrations for Saudi Arabia's 100th anniversary.
- He also helped organize exhibitions about Saudi Arabia in other countries, like France, the U.S.A., and Spain.
- He attended meetings where Arab information ministers discussed important topics in Tunisia and Egypt in 1998.
His Family Life
Prince Turki bin Sultan was married and had two children: a son named Abdulaziz and a daughter named Al Anoud. His son, Prince Abdulaziz, also has a son named Turki bin Abdulaziz.
Prince Turki also wrote a book called Military Media. It was about how public relations work for Saudi and American armed forces. He was also an honorary member of the Al Hilal football club.
Passing Away
Prince Turki bin Sultan passed away on December 25, 2012, at the Riyadh Military Hospital. He was 53 years old and died from a heart attack. The Royal Court officially announced his death.
His funeral was held the next day, on December 26, 2012. It took place after the afternoon prayer at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. Many important princes and officials, including Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, attended the funeral.
