The Twenty-fourth Dynasty of Egypt (also called Dynasty XXIV) was a group of rulers in Ancient Egypt. It is usually seen as the fourth dynasty of the Third Intermediate Period. This dynasty was quite short, lasting only about 12 years. Its capital city was Sais, located in the western part of the Nile River Delta.

Meet the Pharaohs of the 24th Dynasty
The 24th Dynasty had two main pharaohs. They tried to control more of Egypt during a time when the country was divided.
Tefnakht I: The Great Chief
Tefnakht I was a powerful leader. He brought together many smaller rulers from the Nile Delta region. With their help, he tried to take control of Upper Egypt. This caught the attention of the Nubian king, Piye.
King Piye wrote about his victory over Tefnakht and his allies. In Piye's writings, Tefnakht is often called the "Great Chief of the West." It is not fully clear if Tefnakht I ever officially became a pharaoh with a royal title. However, many experts believe he was a very important figure.
Bakenranef: The Last Ruler
Bakenranef was Tefnakht I's successor. He definitely took the throne in Sais and used the royal name Wahkare. His power was recognized in many parts of the Delta, including Memphis. We know this from special stone tablets found there.
This dynasty ended suddenly. Shebitqo, the second king of the Twenty-Fifth Dynasty, attacked Sais. He captured Bakenranef, which brought his rule and the 24th Dynasty to a swift end.
