Discover Twin Lakes

Twin Lakes are a pair of small lakes high up in the mountains. They are called "sub-alpine" because they are located just below the tree line. These lakes are part of the larger Axolotl Lakes group. This group is found within the Greenhorn Range of mountains.

Where Are Twin Lakes?

The lakes are located southwest of a town called Ennis, Montana. The Lower Twin Lakes is about 11 acres in size. The Upper Twin Lakes is much smaller. It is located about a quarter-mile southwest of the lower lake.

The lakes are on land owned by the state. You can reach them by a one-lane dirt road. This road is called Axolotl Lakes Road. It connects Montana Highway 287 to the Gravelly Range road.

Fishing Fun!

Twin Lakes are a great spot for fishing. They are home to rainbow trout. These fish are put into the lakes by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. This department helps manage fish and wildlife in Montana. They make sure there are enough fish for people to enjoy.
