Twinkle Sleepyhead facts for kids
Twinkle Sleepyhead (Slovene: Zvezdica Zaspanka), also known as The Sleepy Twinkle Star or The Sleepy Little Star, is a very famous children's story from Slovenia. It was the first ever Slovene radio play, which means it was a play made just for listening on the radio. A talented writer named Frane Milčinski – Ježek wrote it in 1952.
This beloved story became a puppet show in 1955 and has been performed many times since then. In 1959, it was published as a book, and for this wonderful work, Ježek received the Levstik Award. Today, Twinkle Sleepyhead is still one of the most popular children's tales in Slovenia.
The Story of Twinkle Sleepyhead
Twinkle Sleepyhead is the youngest star shining in the night sky. She has a bit of a problem: she often arrives late for her important job of twinkling! Because of this, the Moon, who is in charge of all the stars, decides to send her to Earth. This is her punishment, and she can only return to the sky when she shows she has learned to be on time and responsible.
Twinkle's Journey on Earth
While on Earth, Twinkle Sleepyhead meets many different people. One of them is a man named Ceferin. He is interested in her beautiful golden hair. However, Twinkle Sleepyhead's pure kindness and good heart begin to change him. Instead of being cold and uncaring, his heart starts to beat with warmth and feeling.
Learning Her Lesson
Through her experiences and her gentle nature, Twinkle Sleepyhead proves that she has learned her lesson. She shows that she can be responsible and that her goodness can even change others. Once she has shown this, she is allowed to return to her rightful place in the sky, twinkling brightly once more.
