The two-lined climbing salamander (Bolitoglossa biseriata) is a fascinating creature. It's also known as the two-lined mushroomtongue salamander. This type of salamander is part of the Plethodontidae family. These salamanders are special because they don't have lungs! They breathe through their skin and the lining of their mouth. You can find this salamander in countries like Panama, western Colombia, and northwestern Ecuador.

Where it Lives

This salamander loves warm, wet places. Its natural habitat is humid lowland forests. It spends most of its life in trees. This means it is an arboreal animal. You can often find it living inside plants like bromeliads and heliconias. These plants grow on other trees and collect water, making perfect little homes for the salamander.

Why it Needs Our Help

Sadly, the two-lined climbing salamander is facing challenges. Its biggest threat is habitat loss. This happens when its forest home is cut down or changed. When forests disappear, these salamanders lose their homes and places to find food. Protecting these forests is important to help this unique salamander survive.
