The Early Life of Two Eyed Jack
Two Eyed Jack was born in 1961. He was a sorrel stallion, which means he had a reddish-brown coat. A person named H. H. Mass bred him.
His father was a horse named Two D Two. His mother was Triangle Tookie. She was a very successful mother horse, giving birth to five AQHA Champions, including Two Eyed Jack.
Two Eyed Jack's Show Career
In 1964, Howard Pitzer bought Two Eyed Jack. By then, Jack had already earned many points in horse shows. He was especially good at halter competitions. In these shows, horses are judged on their looks and how well they are built.
After Pitzer bought him, Two Eyed Jack earned even more points. He got points in:
- Halter (217 points!)
- Western Pleasure (46.5 points)
- Hunt seat (7 points)
- Western Riding (3 points)
- Working cow horse (3 points)
- Reining (6 points)
Because of all these points, Two Eyed Jack won several important awards. These included the AQHA Superior Halter Horse award, an AQHA Championship, and a Performance Register of Merit.
Howard Pitzer had actually seen Two Eyed Jack twice before buying him. The first time was when Jack was just ten days old. The second time was when Jack was two years old at the Denver Stock Show. Pitzer thought Jack was a nice horse.
Two Eyed Jack's Offspring
Two Eyed Jack became the most successful father of AQHA Champions ever. He had 119 champion offspring! He also sired many other award-winning horses, including:
- Sixteen AQHA World Show Champions
- 242 horses that earned a Performance Register of Merit
- Three AQHA Supreme Champions
One of his daughters, Vickie Lee Pine, was named the AQHA World Show Superhorse in 1978. Some of his other famous children included Two Eyed Patti, Two Eyed Donna, and Two ID Bartender.
Death and Honors
Two Eyed Jack was a big horse. He stood 15.2½ hands tall and weighed 1350 pounds. He passed away on March 2, 1991. He was buried on Howard Pitzer's ranch in Ericson, Nebraska. This is where Pitzer buried all his special stallions.
In 1996, Two Eyed Jack was honored by being added to the AQHA Hall of Fame. This is a very special award for horses who have made a big impact. In 2007, Western Horseman magazine listed him as one of the top ranch horse bloodlines.
