How Twodot Got Its Unique Name
Twodot has a very interesting name! It comes from the cattle brand of a man named George R. Wilson (1830-1907). He was known as "Two Dot Wilson." His cattle brand was simply two dots placed side by side on the hip of his cattle. When he donated the land for the town, people started calling the place "Two Dot," and the name stuck. It has become a bit of a legend in the American West.
History of the Community
Twodot was founded in the year 1900. It started as a station on the Montana Railroad. Later, it became a stop on the main line of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, often called "the Milwaukee Road." This railroad was very important for connecting different parts of the country. Twodot was also a site for one of the railroad's special electrification stations.
Spelling of the Name
For a long time, people used two different spellings for the town's name: "Two Dot" and "Twodot." In 1999, the official name of the town's post office was changed from Twodot to Two Dot. However, when the U.S. Census Bureau counted the population for the 2020 census, they used the name "Twodot." So, both spellings are still used today.
