Tyler Beck Goodspeed is an American economist and historian. He studies how economies work and how they have changed over time. From June 2020 to January 2021, he was the acting chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers. This is a group that gives advice to the President of the United States about the economy.

Early Life and Education
Tyler Goodspeed was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, in the United States. He went to Phillips Exeter Academy and finished there in 2003.
College and Advanced Degrees
Goodspeed studied economics and history at Harvard University. He earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA), in 2008. He then went to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in England. There, he earned a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in economic and social history in 2009. He received a special scholarship called the Gates Cambridge Scholarship for this.
He returned to Harvard for more studies. He earned a Master of Arts (MA) in 2011. In 2014, he completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in history. His PhD focused on economic history. He also earned another PhD in economics from Cambridge University.
Career in Economics
After finishing his studies, Tyler Goodspeed worked as a researcher. From 2014 to 2017, he was a junior research fellow at St. John’s College at Oxford University. He also taught economics at King's College London from 2016 to 2017.
Work in Government
In 2017, Goodspeed joined the Council of Economic Advisers. He started as a senior economist. Later, he became the chief economist for how the economy works on a large scale (macroeconomic policy). In 2019, he became a member of the Council.
On June 23, 2020, he was chosen to be the acting chairman of the Council. He also led the Economic Policy Committee at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This group helps countries work together on economic issues.
Later Career
In March 2021, Goodspeed became a fellow at the Hoover Institution. This is a research center at Stanford University. In 2023, he took on a new role. He became the Chief Economist for ExxonMobil Corporation, a large energy company.
Personal Life
Tyler Goodspeed is married to Oliver McPherson-Smith. Oliver is also an academic, meaning he works in universities or research.
