Professional Football Journey
Tyree Jackson began his professional career after the 2019 NFL draft. He was not chosen in the draft, but he signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2019.
Time with the Buffalo Bills
During the preseason, Tyree played quarterback for the Bills. In one game, he helped his team make a big comeback. They were losing 23-6 with less than four minutes left, but he led them to a win. However, he was released by the Bills on August 31, 2019, before the regular season started.
Playing in the XFL with DC Defenders
In October 2019, Tyree was picked by the DC Defenders in the 2020 XFL Draft. The XFL was a new football league. In the first two games, he had limited playing time. He had one rush for 5 yards. He got more chances in later games, especially when the Defenders were struggling. In week 5, he came into the game and helped his team win. He completed 9 of 14 passes for 39 yards and threw one touchdown. The XFL season was then canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tyree finished the short XFL season with 46 passing yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 28 yards.
Switching to Tight End with Philadelphia Eagles
On January 7, 2021, the Philadelphia Eagles signed Tyree Jackson. This was a big change for him. He was signed as a tight end, not a quarterback. He worked hard to learn his new position. He had a promising training camp, and some thought he might make the team. However, he broke a bone in his back on August 17. He was placed on the injured reserve list on September 2, 2021.
He returned to play on November 6, making his NFL debut on November 7. He played in 14 offensive plays and 4 special teams plays. On November 21, he was targeted with a pass for the first time, but it was incomplete. Two weeks later, he started his first NFL game. In the last game of the 2022 regular season, on January 8, 2022, Tyree caught his first NFL pass. It was a three-yard pass that also became his first career touchdown! Sadly, later in that same game, he tore his ACL (a knee ligament). This injury ended his season. He was placed on injured reserve again.
He was placed on another reserve list in August 2022. He was activated in November. On December 23, he was placed on injured reserve again, ending his 2022 season. Without him, the Eagles made it to Super Bowl LVII but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. In April 2023, he signed a new contract with the Eagles. However, he was released by the team on August 29.
Time with the New York Giants
On August 30, 2023, the New York Giants signed Tyree Jackson to their practice squad. He was moved to the main roster on January 6, 2024. On August 16, 2024, the Giants released him due to an injury.
