Starting in 2021
Before the 2021 NRL season began, Tyrell Sloan signed a three-year contract. He joined the St. George Illawarra Dragons as a development player. This meant he was training with the main team.
In round 15 of the 2021 NRL season, Tyrell played his very first top-level game. He played for St. George Illawarra against the Canberra Raiders. In this exciting game, he scored a try, helping his team win 22–20. This win happened at WIN Stadium.
Tyrell played five games for St. George Illawarra in the 2021 NRL season. He scored six tries, which gave his team 24 points. The team finished 11th in the competition. This meant they did not make it to the finals for the third year in a row.
Challenges in 2022
After the St. George Illawarra team lost a game in round 3 of the 2022 season, Tyrell was moved to a lower league. He was sent to play in the NSW Cup by his coach, Anthony Griffin. Some rugby league experts thought this was a surprising decision.
Tyrell spent two months playing in the reserve grade. Then, he was called back to the main team for a special game. This game was part of "Magic Round" against the Gold Coast Titans. Success in 2024
In the first game of the 2024 NRL season, Tyrell Sloan had a fantastic start. He scored three tries in one game, which is called a hat-trick. This helped St. George Illawarra win unexpectedly against the Gold Coast Titans with a score of 28-4.
