Tyrone Kennedy Corbin (born December 31, 1962) is a former American basketball player and coach. He played for 16 seasons in the NBA. After his playing career, he became a coach. He was the head coach for the Utah Jazz and later an interim head coach for the Sacramento Kings. Most recently, he worked as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets.

College Basketball Career
Tyrone Corbin played college basketball at DePaul University from 1981 to 1985. He played in 120 games for the Blue Demons. Each year, his scoring and shooting percentages improved. He averaged 11.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
Corbin finished his college career as one of DePaul's top scorers. He was recognized as an All-America player twice. In 1983, he was also named an All-NIT choice. He was even invited to the 1984 Olympic trials.
He earned a degree in computer science. After college, the San Antonio Spurs picked him in the 1985 NBA draft. He was a team captain in his third and fourth years at DePaul. In 2005, he was honored by being inducted into the DePaul University Athletics Hall of Fame.
NBA Playing Career
Tyrone Corbin played as a small forward in the NBA from 1985 to 2000. He started his NBA journey with the San Antonio Spurs. They drafted him in the second round in 1985.
Moving Between Teams
After playing for the Spurs, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1987. He was later part of a big trade in 1988. This trade sent him to the Phoenix Suns.
In 1989, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected him in the 1989 NBA expansion draft. He had a great season in 1989–90. He led the team in rebounds and steals. On January 2, 1991, he made Timberwolves history. He recorded the team's first-ever triple-double. This means he had double-digit numbers in points, rebounds, and assists in one game.
Corbin then joined the Utah Jazz in 1991. He helped the Jazz reach the NBA Western Conference Finals twice. He played 233 games for the Jazz. He averaged 9.6 points and 6.2 rebounds during his time there.
After the Jazz, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 1994. His impressive streak of 415 straight games played ended in Atlanta. He was then traded to the Sacramento Kings in 1995. Later, he moved to the Miami Heat in 1996.
He returned to the Hawks for three seasons. In 1999, he went back to the Kings. His final NBA season was with the Toronto Raptors in 2000. He was traded to the Detroit Pistons in 2001 but was waived the next day. He never played in the NBA again after that.

Throughout his playing career, Tyrone Corbin wore jersey numbers 23 and 33. He played in 1,065 NBA games. He averaged 9.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He was known as a versatile small forward. He also played in 81 NBA playoff games. This included 37 games with the Utah Jazz.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Corbin became a player mentor for the Charleston Lowgators. In 2003, he worked for the New York Knicks. He helped develop their players.
Utah Jazz Head Coach
In 2004, Corbin joined the Utah Jazz as an assistant coach. He worked under longtime coach Jerry Sloan for seven years. On February 10, 2011, Sloan resigned. Tyrone Corbin then took over as the head coach of the Utah Jazz.
On April 21, 2014, the Jazz decided not to offer Corbin a new contract.
Sacramento Kings and Other Teams
After leaving the Jazz, he became an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings. On December 15, 2014, he was promoted to interim head coach. This happened after Michael Malone was fired. On February 12, 2015, the Kings replaced him as head coach. However, he continued to work with the team as an advisor.
On June 25, 2016, Corbin returned to the Phoenix Suns as an assistant coach. He worked under head coach Earl Watson. Watson had played for Corbin during his last season coaching the Jazz. Corbin also reunited with former player Mehmet Okur there. Okur joined the Suns' coaching staff too. After two seasons, Corbin left the Suns.
On June 26, 2018, the Orlando Magic hired Corbin as an assistant coach.
On August 2, 2022, Corbin was hired by the Charlotte Hornets as an assistant coach.
Personal Life
Tyrone Corbin is married to his high school sweetheart, Dante. They have two children, Tyjha and Tyrell. His son, Tyrell, was a top basketball player in Utah. He was named Utah's Mr. Basketball in 2011. Tyrell played college basketball for the UC Davis Aggies. He later played professionally for Mega Tbilisi in Georgia in 2022.
