UBS Plaza is a tall, 25-story office building. It is located in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. The building was finished in 1980. It is part of a larger area called the Town Square complex. Many different companies have offices here. These include UBS Financial Services, the architecture company TKDA, and several law firms.
Building History
This building was finished in 1980. It was first called the Conwed Tower. In 1987, a company named Meritor Mortgage Corporation moved in. They took the top two floors. Because of this, the building's name changed to Meritor Tower.
Later, in 1993, another company moved its offices there. This company was called Piper Jaffray. So, the building was renamed Piper Jaffray Plaza. In 2012, the building was sold to RAIT Financial Trust. Then, in 2017, CIG-UBS bought it for $14 million.
The Famous MPR Raccoon
On June 12, 2018, something amazing happened at the tower. A raccoon got stuck and started climbing the building! It climbed all the way up to the 22nd floor. This raccoon became very famous online. Many people watched it, and news stations covered the story.
People gathered to watch the raccoon. Animal control workers tried to help it. The raccoon kept climbing. It finally reached the roof of the 25-story building. This happened at 2:30 in the morning the next day. People working at Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) were across the street. They helped make the raccoon famous. That's why it was called the "MPR Raccoon."
