The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) is a giant aircraft carrier in the United States Navy. It's the fifth ship of its kind in the Nimitz-class, which are some of the largest warships in the world. This powerful ship is named after the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Its home base is Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, California.
The Abraham Lincoln is a very important ship. It acts as the main ship, or flagship, for Carrier Strike Group 3. This group includes other warships and many aircraft. The ship returned to duty on May 12, 2017, after a big upgrade called a Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH). This work was done at the Newport News Shipyard. As of August 2024, the Abraham Lincoln and its group are in the Middle East. They are there as part of the U.S. response to rising tensions in the area.
