Uetikon am See is a lovely town, also called a municipality, located in Switzerland. It's found in the Meilen district, which is part of the Zürich canton. This town sits right on the beautiful north bank of Lake Zürich.

A Look Back in Time
Uetikon am See has a long history. It was first mentioned way back in 1150. At that time, it was known by a slightly different name: Uotinchova. The town kept a shorter name, Uetikon, until 1924. After that, it became known as Uetikon am See, which means "Uetikon on the Lake."

Uetikon am See covers an area of about 3.49 square kilometers. A large part of this land, about 47%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 17% of the area. The remaining 36% of the land is where people live and work.
Where is Uetikon Located?
The town is on the north side of Lake Zürich. This area is known as the Pfannenstiel and Goldküste region. The Goldküste, or "Gold Coast," is a well-off suburban area. Uetikon is located about halfway between the big city of Zürich and the town of Rapperswil. In the local language, people often call it Üetike.

Uetikon has two main sections: Kleindorf and Grossdorf. There are also older settlements like Langenbaum, Oberstmatt, Grüt, Rundirain, and Weid. The town used to have a chemical factory with the same name, but it is planned to close. Most of Uetikon, except for the harbor and train station, is located a bit uphill from the lake.
