José Ulises Solís Pérez, born on August 28, 1981, is a former professional boxer from Mexico. He was a champion in the sport, holding the IBF junior flyweight title two different times. His boxing career lasted from 2000 to 2013. Ulises is also the brother of another well-known boxer, Jorge Solís.

Ulises Solís: A Boxing Journey

Ulises Solís started his professional boxing career in April 2000. He won his very first fight against Adolfo Rosillo. Early in his career, he built an impressive record of 18 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw. This included a victory over Edgar Sosa, who would later become a champion himself.

Chasing a Championship Title

On July 30, 2004, Ulises Solís got his first chance to fight for a major title. He challenged Nelson Dieppa for the WBO Light Flyweight Championship. Solís fought hard for twelve rounds but unfortunately lost the match.

Becoming an IBF World Champion

Ulises Solís didn't give up. On January 7, 2006, he faced Will Grigsby for the IBF world championship title. Solís won the fight by a unanimous decision, meaning all the judges agreed he was the winner. This made him a world champion!

He successfully defended his new title several times. He won against former champion Eric Ortiz and also against Omar Salado.

Defending the Title

On January 25, 2008, Solís had a rematch with Will Grigsby. He proved his skill again by stopping Grigsby in the 8th round. On May 19, 2007, Solís defeated another former champion, José Antonio Aguirre, with a technical knockout in the 8th round.

He continued his winning streak on August 4, 2007, by defeating Rodel Mayol, who would later become a champion. Solís won this fight by technical knockout. On December 15, 2007, he defended his title against veteran boxer Bert Batawang.

Ulises Solís was supposed to fight Glenn Donaire on May 17, 2008. However, he had to pull out because he became very sick with pneumonia. The fight was rescheduled for July 12 in Hermosillo, Mexico. Solís won this fight by a shutout, meaning he won every round on all three judges' scorecards.

On December 2, 2008, Solís defeated Nerys Espinoza by unanimous decision. In total, he defended his IBF title eight times, showing he was a strong champion.

Losing and Regaining the Title

Solís eventually lost his IBF light-flyweight title to Brian Viloria. Viloria knocked him out in the 11th round of their title match on April 19, 2009.

After this loss, Solís worked his way back up. On March 27, 2010, he defeated Bert Batawang for a second time. Batawang stopped fighting in the 6th round, which allowed Solís to win. This win was an important step to get another shot at the IBF title.

Following that victory, Solís defeated former champion Eric Ortiz again by a unanimous decision.

The Rematch for the Title

On December 18, 2010, Solís fought Luis Alberto Lazarte for the IBF light flyweight title in Argentina. The fight ended in a controversial draw. Solís seemed to be winning, but Lazarte used some illegal moves. The referee took points away from Lazarte, but the final scores were still very close.

Because of the controversial result, Solís got a rematch. On April 30, 2011, he faced Lazarte again. This time, Solís won by a split decision after 12 rounds. This victory meant he was once again the IBF light flyweight champion!

An Incident and Time Away from Boxing

In October 2011, Ulises Solís was involved in an incident with another Mexican boxer, Canelo Álvarez. This event caused Solís to have an injury. He later reached an agreement about the incident. Because of this, Solís had to give up his IBF light flyweight title and took a long break from boxing.
