History of Allstate Arena
The Village of Rosemont helped pay for the arena's construction. They made special agreements with different companies to help run the new building.
During its construction, in August 1979, a part of the roof collapsed. This was a serious accident that caused delays. The arena was designed with a special timber roof. This roof helps to block out the noise from airplanes flying to and from nearby O'Hare International Airport.
The first big event at the arena was a concert by the band Fleetwood Mac in May 1980. The arena was also featured in music videos, like "Big City Nights" by the band Scorpions in 1985.
In June 1999, an insurance company called Allstate made a deal to put their name on the arena. They paid over $10 million for the naming rights and to help update the building. That's how the Rosemont Horizon became the Allstate Arena.
In December 2003, the basketball court at the arena was named "Ray and Marge Meyer Court." This was to honor Basketball Hall of Famer Ray Meyer and his wife. Ray Meyer coached the DePaul men's basketball team for 42 seasons. He is the team's winningest coach.
