José Ulises Solís Pérez (born August 28, 1981) is a Mexican former professional boxer. He was known as "Archi." He competed in boxing from 2000 to 2013.

Ulises Solís held the IBF junior flyweight title two times. He was champion from 2006 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012. His brother, Jorge Solís, was also a boxer.

Starting His Boxing Journey

Ulises Solís began his professional boxing career in April 2000. He won his very first fight against Adolfo Rosillo. Early in his career, he built an impressive record. He won 18 fights and had only one draw. One of his notable early wins was against future champion Edgar Sosa.

Chasing the World Titles

In 2004, Ulises Solís got a chance to fight for a world title. He challenged Nelson Dieppa for the WBO Light Flyweight Championship. However, he lost this twelve-round match.

Winning the IBF Title

On January 7, 2006, Solís fought Will Grigsby for the IBF world championship. He won the fight by a unanimous decision. This means all three judges agreed he was the clear winner.

After winning the title, Solís successfully defended it many times. He beat former champion Eric Ortiz and Omar Salado. He also had a rematch with Will Grigsby in 2008. Solís won again, stopping Grigsby in the 8th round.

He continued to defend his title against tough opponents. In May 2007, he defeated former WBC world champion José Antonio Aguirre. He won by a technical knockout in the 9th round. A few months later, in August 2007, he beat future champion Rodel Mayol. This was also a technical knockout. In December 2007, he defended his title against Filipino boxer Bert Batawang.

Facing Challenges and Defending the Title

In 2008, Solís was supposed to fight Glenn Donaire. But he had to pull out because he got pneumonia. The fight was rescheduled for July 12. Solís kept his title by winning every round on the judges' scorecards. He showed great skill and determination.

On December 2, 2008, Solís defeated Nerys Espinoza by unanimous decision. He defended his IBF title a total of eight times. This showed he was a very strong champion.

Losing and Regaining the Title

Ulises Solís eventually lost his IBF light-flyweight title. He was knocked out in the 11th round by Brian Viloria in April 2009.

After this loss, Solís worked hard to get back to the top. In March 2010, he defeated Bert Batawang for a second time. This win helped him get closer to another title shot. He then beat former champion Eric Ortiz again.

Becoming Champion Again

On December 18, 2010, Solís fought Luis Alberto Lazarte for the IBF light flyweight title. The fight was very close and ended in a majority draw. This meant two judges scored it even, and one scored it for Solís. During the fight, Lazarte committed some fouls.

Because of the close and controversial result, a rematch was set. On April 30, 2011, Solís faced Lazarte again. This time, Solís won by a split decision. This means two judges scored it for Solís, and one for Lazarte. With this victory, Ulises Solís became the IBF light flyweight champion for the second time!
