History of União São João
União São João was started on January 14, 1981. It was founded by Hermínio Ometto. He owned a sugar mill called Usina São João. The club was created in the same area where the mill used to be.
Early Victories and Promotions
In 1987, União São João won the Campeonato Paulista Special Division. They beat São José in the final match. This win helped the club move up to the top league the next year.
The club won its first national championship in 1988. União São João won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C. They defeated Esportivo Passense from Minas Gerais in the final. This victory meant they were promoted to the second division.
In 1989, União São João played in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B for the first time. They finished in 29th place. That same year, the club traveled to Japan. They played four friendly matches, winning two and drawing two.
Playing in Brazil's Top League
The 1993 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A was made bigger, with 32 clubs. União São João was promoted to play in this top competition. They had their best performance ever, finishing in 12th place.
In 1994, the club became a business. They finished in 21st place in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
By 1995, União São João finished in 24th place in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. This was the last position, and they were moved down to Série B for the next year.

In 2003, União São João played in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. They finished in 24th place, which was the last spot. This meant they were moved down to Série C.
