The Union River is a stream located in the state of Washington, United States. It starts in the middle of the Kitsap Peninsula. From there, it flows south until it reaches the end of Hood Canal. This river is important because its reservoir provides drinking water for the nearby city of Bremerton.
Journey of the Union River
The Union River begins its journey in the central part of the Kitsap Peninsula. This area is a few miles west of Bremerton. It's also near Green Mountain and Gold Mountain.
River Flow and Features
The river flows mostly south, with a slight turn to the west. Early in its path, the river is held back by the Casad Dam. This dam creates the Union River Reservoir. This reservoir is a big lake that stores water.
Just a short distance downstream from the reservoir, the river drops over a beautiful spot called McKenna Falls. Further along, another stream, the East Fork Union River, joins the main river.
River Valley and Mouth
As the river continues, the Old Belfair Highway runs next to it through the valley. This means you can drive alongside parts of the river.
Finally, near the town of Belfair, the Union River reaches its end. It flows into the wide, flat mud areas of Lynch Cove. This cove is at the very end of the Hood Canal.
