The United States Post Office building in Greenwich, Connecticut, is a cool old building. It's located at 310 Greenwich Avenue in downtown Greenwich. Built in 1915, it shows off a style called Classical Revival architecture. This building is special because its design was unique. It was made before most post offices started looking very similar. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. This means it's an important historical place! Today, it's no longer a post office but a store. It is also part of the Greenwich Avenue Historic District.

About the Building's Design

The old Greenwich post office sits on a unique triangle-shaped spot. It's between Greenwich Avenue and Arch Street. There's even a small park with a war memorial in front of it.

The building has one story and is made of brick and stone. It has a strong steel frame inside. The main front of the building faces the street intersection. This part is curved and has an entrance area set back into the wall. Six tall, fancy columns called Corinthian columns support this recessed area. Above the columns, there's a decorative wall called a parapet. It has small, balustrade-like parts.

History of the Greenwich Post Office

This building was finished in 1915. It was one of the last post offices designed in a special way. Back then, government buildings were often designed individually. They were meant to be like monuments. These buildings brought fancy architecture to smaller towns. Later on, most post office designs became more standard. This meant many post offices looked very similar.

In 2014, a company called Renovation Hardware bought the building. They made many changes inside. The outside of the building still looks the same as it did when it was a post office. However, the inside was completely updated. It now has two stories and sells high-value items. Restoration Hardware also made the back of the building bigger. They added more space for displays and a patio for customers.
