The Unity Buildings are two tall towers located in Liverpool, England. They were finished in 2007. These buildings are special because they are connected, even though they have different uses.
The taller tower is called Unity Residential. It is about 86 meters (282 feet) high and has 27 floors. This tower is mostly for homes, with 162 apartments. Many of these are two or three-bedroom apartments spread over two levels. It also has a gym for people living there and underground parking.
The shorter tower is called Unity Commercial. It is about 64 meters (210 feet) high and has 16 floors. This tower is mainly used for offices. Together, these buildings are among the tallest in Liverpool. They stand right in the middle of Liverpool city centre on Chapel Street.
Before the Unity Buildings were built, there were plans for an even taller building on the same spot. It was going to be called 'Capital Exchange' and would have been 145 meters (476 feet) tall with 40 floors. However, those plans were changed, and the Unity Buildings were built instead.
Building Achievements
The Unity Buildings have won important awards for their design. In 2007, they won an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). This award is given to excellent tall buildings.
The RIBA judges liked how the buildings were arranged. They said the design helped keep the views of the River Mersey clear. They also noted the interesting "Dazzle Camouflage patterns" on the buildings.
