Universidad de los Andes (UANDES) is a private university in Santiago, Chile. It was started in 1989 by a group of teachers and experts. This university is inspired by Catholic values.

UANDES focuses on teaching, research, and helping the community. It is a non-profit organization. The university is officially recognized for its high quality in teaching, research, and how it is managed.

History of UANDES

The university was founded on September 8, 1989. Key founders included Eduardo Fernández León, Matías Izquierdo Menéndez, and Eduardo Gulisasti Gana.

The first subject taught was law, starting in 1990. Soon after, medicine and philosophy programs began. Over the years, UANDES has grown a lot.

Today, the university offers many different study programs. This includes 22 undergraduate degrees and 10 associate degree programs. They also have many advanced programs for students who want to study more after their first degree.

Students at UANDES

About 9,000 students are currently studying at UANDES. They can choose from 28 different undergraduate majors. These programs cover subjects like humanities, engineering, and healthcare.

The university also offers 11 associate degree programs. For students who want to continue their education, there are over 1,500 students in postgraduate programs. These include PhDs, master's degrees, and medical specialties.

All of the university's main facilities are on one campus. This campus includes the Clinica Universidad de los Andes, which is a hospital. It also has the CiiB, a center for biomedical research, and the ESE Business School.

UANDES also has a health center in San Bernardo. This center helps the local community and gives students a place to get hands-on experience.

University Buildings and Campus

The main campus in San Carlos de Apoquindo has nine important buildings. These include the ESE Business School and the engineering building.

There is also a large library where students can study. The central building holds many offices, classrooms, and spaces for academic staff.

The university has two of its own clinical facilities. One is the health center in San Bernardo. The other is the Clinica Universidad de los Andes, which is right on the university campus.
