How Unreal Brands Started
The idea for Unreal Brands began in 2008. Two teenage brothers, Nicky and Kristopher Bronner, along with their father, Michael Bronner, wanted to create healthier candy. Michael Bronner was an entrepreneur, which means he was a person who started and ran businesses.
They noticed that many candies in stores had artificial ingredients. So, the family started working to make all-natural candy. They tried many different recipes to find the perfect ones. In 2010, their company, Unreal Brands, officially began.
What Makes Unreal Candy Different
By 2013, Unreal Brands was making and selling chocolate snacks. These snacks were made only with ingredients that were not GMOs. This means the ingredients were not changed in a lab.
Their candies also did not have certain things often found in other sweets. They avoided partially hydrogenated oils, which are unhealthy fats. They also left out preservatives, artificial colors, gluten, corn, and soy. Plus, their candies had less sugar compared to similar big-brand candies.
Some of the first products they made included different kinds of chocolate peanut butter cups. They also made candy-coated chocolate gems.
Growing and Relaunching
Unreal Brands grew very quickly at first. Sometimes, growing too fast can cause problems for a company. Because of this, the company briefly closed down.
However, they relaunched in 2014 with a new CEO, Steve Konczal. A CEO is the chief executive officer, the main person in charge of running the company.
In 2015, Unreal Brands had a fun sales event. They hid autographs from famous quarterback Tom Brady in buckets of their Halloween candy. This helped them get more attention and sell more products.
New Products and Where to Find Them
In March 2017, Unreal Brands started making snacks with unique ingredients. These included crispy toasted quinoa and almond butter. Quinoa is a healthy grain, and almond butter is like peanut butter but made from almonds.
Today, you can buy UNREAL products online. They are also sold in many natural food stores and regular grocery stores across the United States. Some of these stores include Whole Foods, Sprouts Farmers Markets, Kroger, Shaw's, Market Basket, Wegmans, Big Y, and Roche Bros.
In May 2024, the company expanded its range of products. They started offering more types of snacks beyond just candy.
