Upper Kohistan is an important administrative area, like a county, located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. It is part of the Hazara region. This district helps manage local services and government for the people living there.
How Upper Kohistan Was Formed
Before 2014, Upper Kohistan was part of a larger area called Kohistan District. In 2014, the government decided to divide Kohistan District into two separate parts. These new parts became Upper Kohistan and Lower Kohistan. This division helped make it easier to manage the different communities and areas.
Parts of Upper Kohistan
Upper Kohistan District is divided into two main administrative sections. These sections are called tehsils. Think of a tehsil as a smaller region within the district, similar to a sub-district or a county subdivision.
The two tehsils in Upper Kohistan are:
- Dassu: This is the main town and the district capital. The district capital is where the main offices and government services for the entire district are located.
- Kandia: This is the other important tehsil within Upper Kohistan.
