Urban Chipmunk is a fun country album by Alvin and the Chipmunks. It was their very first country album! It came out on February 4, 1981. The album's name is a funny take on a movie from 1980 called Urban Cowboy.

Updated CD Version (1993)

In 1993, Urban Chipmunk was released on CD. For this new version, some songs were changed! "Luckenbach, Texas" and "Made For Each Other" were removed. They were replaced with "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and "Boot Scootin' Boogie". Also, "I Love a Rainy Night" got a new title and some new talking parts. The album cover was also updated to show the Chipmunks' newer look.

Album Success

Even though some reviews were mixed, Urban Chipmunk was very successful! It earned a Gold award. This means it sold over 500,000 copies! It was the Chipmunks' second Gold album, after Chipmunk Punk in 1980.

The album also did well on the Billboard music charts. These charts show how popular albums are. Urban Chipmunk reached number 56 on the main Billboard Top LPs chart. On the country music chart, it climbed even higher to number 23!
