Urne (pronounced UR-nee) is a small, unincorporated community in Wisconsin, United States. It is located in Buffalo County, within two different towns: Nelson and Modena. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes or buildings that isn't officially a city or village with its own local government.
Where is Urne Located?
Urne is easy to find on a map. It sits where two county roads meet: County Highway F and County Highway K. This spot is about 8 miles (or 13 kilometers) northeast of the village of Nelson.
How Urne Got Its Name
The community of Urne was named after a person! His name was Ole J. Urne. He was an immigrant from Norway who came to the area in 1865. The community's first post office opened in March 1873. It was originally called "Urne's Corners."
