A long road and bridge connect Nelson across the Mississippi River to the city of Wabasha in Minnesota. This connection is where Wisconsin Highway 25 and Wisconsin Highway 35 meet. When you cross the river from Wisconsin into Minnesota on Highway 25, it changes to Minnesota Highway 60.

Nelson is also located along Wisconsin Highway 35, which is known as the "Great River Road." This road is very popular with tourists because it follows the eastern side of the Mississippi River. A main attraction for visitors in Nelson is the Nelson Cheese Factory, which is over 100 years old!
