Uro (trucks) facts for kids
Uro is a Spanish company that makes tough, all-wheel-drive trucks and military vehicles. The name "Uro" comes from the Galician and Spanish words for "aurochs", which was a large, wild ox. The company is based in Santiago de Compostela, a city in Galicia, Spain.
The main company, Urovesa, started in 1981. It was founded by a group of people who used to work for another vehicle company called IPV. They quickly became well-known for making 4x4 trucks used for fighting fires in rural areas and for construction work in Spain.
Since 1984, Uro has been an approved supplier for the Spanish Army. The Spanish Army uses more than two thousand Uro vehicles. One of their most famous vehicles is the URO VAMTAC. This name stands for "Vehículo de Alta Movilidad Táctico", which means "High Mobility Tactical Vehicle". It has a powerful 190 horsepower Steyr diesel engine. Most other Uro trucks use Iveco engines.
