The Utian languages are a group of native languages once spoken in Northern California, United States. They are also known as Miwok–Costanoan languages. People from the Miwok and Ohlone tribes spoke these languages.
Scientists believe that Utian languages might be part of a larger language family. This bigger group is called Yok-Utian. It also includes the Yokuts languages. Even bigger, Utian and Yokutsan languages are traditionally thought to be part of the Penutian language group.
Sadly, all Utian languages are now severely endangered. This means very few people, if any, still speak them.
