Uzbekistan sent a small team to compete in the 2018 Winter Paralympics! These exciting games took place in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Uzbekistan first took part in the Winter Paralympic Games in 2014. They sent two athletes that year. Only one of them, Ramil Gayazov, actually competed. Uzbekistan did not win any medals in 2014.

Who is Yokutkhon Kholbekova?

Yokutkhon Kholbekova is the only athlete who represented Uzbekistan in skiing at the 2018 Winter Paralympics. Before the games, she took part in a World Cup event in January 2018 to prepare. Besides skiing, Yokutkhon also competes in para-athletics events, which are track and field sports for athletes with disabilities. She has competed in national championships in Uzbekistan for these sports.

What is the Schedule for Skiing Events?

The para-Nordic skiing events at the Paralympics had a set schedule:

  • On March 12, the 15-kilometer race took place. Women who were standing or had vision impairments started their race at 10:00 PM.
  • On March 14, the sprint classic qualification rounds happened. These were from 10:00 AM to 11:25 AM for both men and women in all categories. Later that afternoon, the semifinals and finals for the sprint classic were held.
  • On March 17, the classic race took place. The women's race for standing and visually impaired athletes was from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
