The Story of Vadilal
A Sweet Beginning
The Vadilal story began in 1907. The founder, Vadilal Gandhi, started making ice cream using a traditional method. He used a special hand-cranked machine to mix the ingredients in a pot called a kothi. It was hard work, but the ice cream was a big hit!
By 1926, his ice cream was so popular that he opened the first Vadilal ice cream parlors. The company even started delivering ice cream right to people's homes.
Growing Bigger and Better
Vadilal was always trying new things. In 1950, it introduced cassata ice cream to India, which has layers of different flavors and nuts. In 1985, the company expanded and brought in India's first automatic machine for making ice cream candies on a stick. This meant they could make a lot more ice cream much faster.
In 1989, Vadilal became a public company. This means it held an IPO, where it sold parts of the company, called shares, to the public. This helped Vadilal raise money to grow even bigger.
A few years later, in 1993, the company opened a new factory in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. By 1995, Vadilal was exporting its tasty products to over 26 countries around the world.
What Does Vadilal Make?
Vadilal is most famous for its ice cream. It makes all kinds of frozen treats, including:
- Cones
- Candies and bars
- Ice-lollies
- Cups
- Family-sized packs
A great thing about Vadilal's products is that they are all vegetarian and do not contain any eggs.
More Than Just Ice Cream
In the 1990s, Vadilal started making other types of food. It created a line of processed foods, which are easy-to-prepare meals and snacks. This includes frozen vegetables, ready-to-eat snacks, curries, and different kinds of bread.
In 2013, the company received a special certification from Bureau Veritas. This means its food meets high international standards for safety and quality.
New and Exciting Flavors
Vadilal loves to create new ice cream flavors. In 2011, it launched Flingo cones and Badabite bars. It also created a special line of rich ice creams called Gourmet Premium Ice Creams.
In 2021, the company introduced the Gourmet Natural line. These ice creams are based on popular Indian dessert flavors like gulab jamun, falooda, and kesar rasmalai.
Today, Vadilal has a huge network of over 125,000 dealers selling its products all across India.
