Vaibhavi Merchant is a famous Indian dance choreographer who creates amazing dance routines for Bollywood movies. She won a big award, the National Film Award for Best Choreography, for her work on the song Dholi Taaro Dhol Baaje from the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999.

Her Journey in Dance
Vaibhavi Merchant was born in Chennai, India. Her family has a strong connection to dance. Her grandfather, B. Hiralal, was also a choreographer. Her sister, Shruti Merchant, is also a dancer.
Starting Her Career
Vaibhavi began her career by helping her uncle, Chinni Prakash, who is also a choreographer. In 1999, she got her first chance to create a dance all by herself. This was for the song Dhol Baaje in the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Her work was so good that she won a National Film Award for it!
Dancing for Big Movies
After a short break, Vaibhavi came back to Bollywood. She choreographed the song O Ri Chhori for the movie Lagaan in 2001. Later, she created the dance for the super popular song Kajra Re from the movie Bunty Aur Babli (2005). This song helped her win many more awards.
She has choreographed dances for many other famous films. Some of these include Devdas, Dhoom (and its sequels), Veer-Zaara, Aaja Nachle, and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. She even choreographed an Australian musical called The Merchants of Bollywood, which was about her own family's dance history.
Judging Dance Shows
Besides choreographing, Vaibhavi has also been a judge on popular TV dance shows. She helped decide who the best dancers were on shows like Nach Baliye 3, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 3), Zara Nachke Dikha 2, and Just Dance.
