Valentín García Yebra (born April 28, 1917, in Lombillo de Los Barrios, Spain – died December 13, 2010, in Madrid, Spain) was a very important Spanish expert in languages. He was also a skilled translator and a scholar who studied how translation works.

Valentín García Yebra's Life Story
Valentín García Yebra studied Arts in Madrid. He earned a degree in Classical Philology in 1944. This means he was an expert in ancient languages like Latin and Greek. Later, he got his doctoral degree. His special project was about Latin translations of Aristotle's Metafísica.
He had a long career as a professor and scholar. In 1974, he helped create a special Translation Institute. This was at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. There, he taught classes about the theory of translation. He shared his deep knowledge with many students.
During his life, he won several important awards. One big award was the Spanish National Translation Award in 1998. From 1984 until he passed away, he was a member of the Real Academia Española. This is a very important group that looks after the Spanish language. In 1997, he also joined the Academia Norteamericana de la Lengua Española.
Awards and Honors
Valentín García Yebra received many special recognitions for his work:
- Premio Nacional a la Obra de un Traductor (1998): This is a national award for a translator's entire work.
- Premio Nacional de Periodismo "Miguel Delibes" (2004): He won this journalism award for an article he wrote. The article was called "Desajustes gramaticales."
- Honorary member of Asetrad (2008): He became an honorary member of the Spanish Association of Translators, Proofreaders, and Interpreters.
- Honorary member of IAPTI (2009): He was also made an honorary member of the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters.
